ROCHESTER, Minn.- Three Rivers Community Action says 3,500 applicants for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program across 4 counties may have to wait to receive their benefits until after the government shutdown.
Randi Callahan, community support services director, says this is because the state doesn't have enough money from the federal government to continue supporting program going into November.
She says the program is meant to help pay for energy or fuel to help heat the homes of low-income families throughout the winter.
Without that funding Callahan says many may have choose between food, their energy bill and other financial obligations.
