ONTONAGON, Mich. (WILX) - On this day in 1897, Michigan got it’s first telephone.
The Ontonagon telegraph company in the tiny upper peninsula town of Rockland hooked up the state’s first lines between the owner’s home and his store.
Owner Linus Stannard helped popularize the telephone in Michigan, with lines spreading across the state.
