ALEXANDRIA — A $3 million project to reconstruct South Broadway from 34th Avenue/County Road 46 to 50th Avenue in 2028 inched ahead Monday night.
The Alexandria City Council accepted a $12,132 proposal from Bolton and Menk to complete an Intersection Control Evaluation, or ICE, at the intersection of 34th Avenue and South Broadway.
Initially, the project's scope didn’t include improvements to the intersection of 34th Avenue and South Broadway. The city later determined a roundabout design would be a potential solution for the increasing congestion at the intersection.
The feasibility of both a standard roundabout and mini-roundabout were evaluated. It was determined a standard roundabout would likely require additional right-of-way acquisition, wetland impacts and utility impacts.
