COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Emergency One SC Fund has been activated to help South Carolinians prepare for the upcoming loss of SNAP benefits.
The Central Carolina Community Foundation, which manages the fund, says the move will allow for a charitable giving campaign to support local and regional food banks.
Georgia Mjartan, CEO and President of the foundation, said the timing is critical.
“We know that on November 1, those 260,000 households, 550,000 people will suddenly not be able to use this important food benefit to meet their basic nutritional needs,” she said.
Mjartan said each time the fund is activated, it relies on public donations to make an impact.
