CHATHAM, Mass. —
The Halloween Nor'easter of 1991 is a moment in time StormTeam 5's Mike Wankum remembers well. While he wasn't in Boston, Wankum recalls the lasting effects of 'The Perfect Storm.'
"It was a nor'easter that transitioned into a tropical storm and ultimately strengthened into an unnamed hurricane," explained Wankum. "It should have been given a hurricane name because of its intensity so it became known as the 'No-name Storm.'"
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration , Hurricane Grace was near the storm and ultimately absorbed by it, adding the ingredients needed to make it robust. The storm peaked in intensity on October 30, bringing the biggest impacts to the shoreline. Several people were killed, and many boats damaged or sunk altogether.
