New Delhi: Amazon is going to lay off over 30,000 corporate workers starting today, its biggest workforce cut since 2022, according to a report by Reuters. The relocation is also a part of the overall effort of the company to simplify its operations, reduce costs, and redistribute its workforce after years of active recruitment throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although the layoffs are a small percentage of the 1.55 million employees Amazon employs around the world, they occupy close to 10 percent of the 350,000 corporate positions. The move highlights how the e-commerce giant is transitioning from slower-paced pandemic-related growth to a drive toward long-term effectiveness and profitability with decreased consumer spending and shaky economic circumstances.
