Cyclone Montha, which has developed over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening, bringing with it heavy rains and strong winds across coastal Andhra Pradesh, southern Odisha, and parts of northern Tamil Nadu.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is likely to cross the Andhra coast between Kakinada and Machilipatnam later on Tuesday. The storm’s outer bands have already triggered widespread rainfall and thunderstorms in coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu.

While Tamil Nadu is not expected to face the full impact of the cyclone, several districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu have been experiencing persistent rain since Monday. The Regional Meteor
