ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Rock Island’s City Council approved selling the Casino West property during a meeting Monday night.
The almost 10 acre property on 60th Avenue West would be redeveloped into a dispensary and gas station project, according to city documents .
The controversial project has raised concerns from environmental advocates, who worry it could impact nearby eagles.
During the meeting, city staff discussed surveys that had been done to asses the impact on cultural and historical resources and wildlife, which drew reactions from the crowd.
A Hanna Illowa LLC will buy the land for $270,000, officials said.
When council members voted to approve the sale, audience members booed.
