ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Rock Island City Council will be able to keep their ordinance on new licensing rules for homeless shelters and other local service providers in the city’s downtown after the mayor filed a written objection.
Monday evening, city council got enough votes to override Mayor Ashley Harris’s objection with five “yes” votes and two “no” votes.
All of this comes after earlier this month , the city’s temporary mortarium expired.
Mayor Harris said he vetoed the ordinance because he felt the decision to approve or deny the license should rest on him, not the city manager to ensure accountability in elected officials.
