Letter: McCauley's union comments are troubling

To the editor:

During the mayoral campaign, I’ve heard a lot of discussion about the turnover of department heads. When the issue of the retracted Teamsters endorsement came up at Thursday’s mayoral debate, Ward 5 City Councilor Jim McCauley stated that he believed the city had been “out-negotiated” at the bargaining table and the annual increases were unsustainable. As a public servant and labor activist, I find these comments troubling.
