The severe cyclonic storm Montha is inching closer to the Andhra Pradesh coast and is now positioned about 270 km from Kakinada, moving north-northwest at a speed of 15–17 kmph. According to weather expert Sarat Sahu, the system is expected to make landfall between 9 pm and 11 pm near Kakinada on Tuesday.
“Under the influence of the approaching cyclone, weather conditions have already changed across coastal regions, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds. North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall as the system moves inland,” Sahu predicted.
As Montha progresses, rainfall intensity is expected to decrease in coastal Odisha while increasing in interior districts. Rainfall activity will likely continue until October 29, Sahu added.
