The prospect of a Swindon leisure centre being rebuilt and reopened before early-to-mid 2027 appears unlikely. The de facto owner of Oasis, developer Seven Capital, received planning permission to reconstruct the building in July but has remained tight-lipped on the proposals.

The plans include retaining the listed pool area and dome, demolishing the sports hall, and redeveloping the dry side to feature new changing rooms, a gym, and a 10-pin bowling alley.

Seven Capital also proposed to build more than 700 flats in eight tower blocks surrounding the centre – which would have provided the funds for the developer to rebuild the leisure centre - but the application was rejected.
