Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a call to action for all those who value democracy to oppose the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters' lists. He described the measure as a significant threat to the democratic foundation of the country.

Vijayan alleges that the expansion of the SIR process to multiple states by the Election Commission of India (ECI) is a deliberate effort to undermine universal suffrage and manipulate electoral rolls for political means.
