Louisiana saw one of the largest drops in vehicle theft by mid-2025 in the country compared to last year, according to a report from the non-profit National Insurance Crime Bureau .
A report released September found the Pelican State tied for third in the largest drop in auto thefts by the end of June, tying North Dakota at 32%.
Only the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico and Washington state had higher drops in auto theft, 43% and 42% respectively.
Overall, Louisiana ranked 23 out of 50 states and Puerto Rico in auto thefts and 15 in thefts per 100,000 in the state. As of the end of June, 4,301 vehicle thefts were reported in 2025 compared to 6,348 at the same time last year.
