Nearly 50 years after the last recorded attempt, Delhi launched an artificial rain experiment on Tuesday to tackle its severe air pollution.

A Cessna 206H aircraft took off from the IIT-Kanpur airstrip for a cloud-seeding operation over the Capital as part of a pilot project led by the institute. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa told The Indian Express around noon that the aircraft had left Kanpur for the trial.

Cloud seeding involves releasing salts into clouds to provide nuclei for water vapour to condense around and form droplets to increase the chances of rainfall.
