With retirement no longer mandatory at 65, older employees can help businesses and younger workers thrive

For 51 years, Janice McTighe has worked at a job she loves.

As founder of Calgary’s Renfrew Educational Services, the 84-year-old just recently stepped down as executive director of the school that provides early childhood to Grade 6 classes for 550 kids with physical and cognitive special needs, at four sites throughout the city.

But that doesn’t mean she’s retiring from the work that’s her passion.

Instead, she retains the title of founder and strategic adviser, and will continue shepherding construction of, and fundraising for, the school’s newest addition — a pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 building in Bearspaw.
