Australian travellers visiting Thailand in the next 12 months have been warned the country is mourning the death of Queen Mother Sirikit and activities may be affected over the next year.
Her Majesty died on Friday aged 93. The Thai people will observe a one year mourning period to honour her lifelong dedication and contribution to the nation.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand warned visitors while the country remained fully operational, public activities, events and business operations could be modified to reflect the national atmosphere of mourning throughout the next year.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced all government, state and schools would fly the national flag at half mast for 30 days, and government employees must wear mourning attire for one year.
