Amazon is preparing to cut 30,000 jobs following its Covid-era hiring spree, according to reports.

Many of the roles could be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) following a warning by boss Andy Jassy over the adoption of the technology.

Human resources, operations, devices and services, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are all areas the business is expected to target, Reuters and the Wall Street Journal reports.

Today, Amazon employs 350,000 members of its corporate workforce, meaning the potential job cuts represent a 10th of the entire business.

Amazon employs more than 1.5 million staff in total, with the majority in warehouse roles around the world.

In the UK, Amazon employs 75,000 people, with the cuts reportedly planned to be spread across its sites.
