OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — We are less than a week away from the day hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans risk losing money to help buy groceries.

SNAP benefits, or food stamps, will run out November first if the government does not reopen by then.

So far, federal lawmakers do not appear any closer to a compromise.

Several local groups are now working even harder to make sure Oklahomans, especially kids, don't go hungry.

Red Cross is working with their partners to help military families as they go without paychecks, while the Boys and Girls Club is preparing for an influx of kids seeking help if things don't change soon.
