Former child star Mckenna Grace has admitted filming her first intimate scene as an adult actor was a "nerve-wracking" experience. The 19-year-old has been working consistently in film and TV since she was five years old, with notable roles in Captain Marvel, The Handmaid's Tale, Young Sheldon and the most recent Ghostbusters movies. Regretting You marked Grace's first romantic lead role and her first time participating in an intimate scene, and she admitted to Entertainment Weekly that she was anxious about filming it with her co-star Mason Thames. "That scene was nerve-wracking to shoot for a lot of different reasons, especially coming off of being a child actor, doing that kind of scene," Grace said. "I felt as comfortable with it as I did because I felt like it served such a big purpose for the story, it served a purpose (for) the characters, with everything that was going on, it was kind of a breaking point for her." The I, Tonya star noted that the film was "a big first" for her in general, because it gave her the chance to play a more mature character. "I'd always wanted to do a romance film," she added. "I've done a lot of more mature films and series and roles, but it was my first time playing a more mature character as I'm an adult legally in the industry." Regretting You, based on Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name, follows Grace's character Clara as she embarks on a romance with Thames' Miller while grieving two loved ones who died in the same accident. The Gifted star confessed that she was worried Clara would become "too unlikeable" to audiences due to her questionable decisions, but realised when she saw the finished film that Clara was an "authentic and real" character who makes "very big mistakes". Regretting You, also starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco, is out in cinemas now.
