The middle of autumn may not seem like the most obvious time of year for a trip to the beach. However, a bit of rain and cold weather shouldn't stop you from enjoying a day by the sea.

Scotland is home to so many beautiful seaside towns and villages that it can be hard to keep track of them all. Only one is home to a fish and chip van that serves up the "best fish supper" in the north of Scotland though.

Thurso is a town and former burgh along Scotland's coast, and is the most northerly town on the British mainland. It is famous for the scenic Thurso Bay beach, which is the ideal spot for a bracing autumn walk .
