Regarding the recent article on the sale of the Syracuse Public Safety Building for development of market-rate apartments ( “Windowless jail cells. A prisoner tunnel. Can the Syracuse police station become apartments?” Oct, 24, 2025).

The PSB was built on land that was once the 15th Ward. Although Interstate 81 has been vilified for the destruction of the 15th Ward, in fact, Urban Renewal was responsible for the destruction years before I-81 was built. Why is the redevelopment of the PSB not including discussions on affordable housing and reestablishing a lost neighborhood, as is the focus of redeveloping the I-81 footprint?
