Zoo New York receives donation boost after New York Times feature

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) - A recent New York Times article has helped Zoo New York in Watertown get some much-needed donations.

Earlier this month, the zoo was featured in an article titled “A Beloved Zoo of Misfit Animals Is Almost Out of Money.” The article, published on October 17, provided an in-depth look at the animals, people, and volunteers at the zoo.

It also showed that the zoo required financial assistance, but readers from around the world have stepped up. As of last week, the zoo received over $100,000 in donations and has also seen an uptick in memberships.

Zoo New York interim executive director Mark Irwin has been taken aback by the volume and amount of donations.
