The former mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, who was stabbed last week, spoke out about the incident for the first time on social media, NBC Boston affiliate WJAR reported.

In a Facebook post, Flanagan spoke about coming face to face with death.

“A man, lost in psychosis, stabbed me multiple times — in my face, in my body, and in my neck. I can still feel the weight of those moments. The sound. The fear. The realization that I might never see my family again," he said on the post.

The former mayor was attacked just a block away from the marijuana dispensary he owns in the city.
