JERICHO, Vt. (NEWS10) - Giant gourds are turning heads in Jericho, Vermont. Longtime gardeners John and Kerry Young are behind the annual tradition delivering Halloween magic to the neighborhood. The couple will tell you it takes a labor of love, not spells, to achieve this level of success.

Every year they have a theme for their pumpkin display.

“All pumpkins believe it or not are female, the pumpkin plant does produce two blossoms but only the female blossom produces a pumpkin so they’re all female names,” said Kerry Young.

This year, the horseracing fans named the pumpkins after women associated with the New York Racing Association. They are named Maggie, after NYRA analyst Maggie Wolfendale, Katie Davis and Marylou after the late 'Queen of Saratoga,' Marylou Whitney.
