WACO, Texas — The day was overcast until the sun peeked briefly out of the clouds over the Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas. Below the sounds of a bugle plays taps softly as active duty soldiers from Killeen salute and begin to ceremoniously fold the American flag draped over the casket of World War II Veteran, father, grandfather and great-grandfather PFC Florencio Davila.
It was Davila's dying wish.
But it almost didn't happen.
Initially the Davila family was told he wouldn't receive military honors because of the government shutdown. A process that is coordinated through the funeral home providing services. The family knew they'd have to reach out to the community, government leaders and Fort Hood for help.
