An abandoned mansion built for Wall Street magnate George Van Ness has hit the market for $2.59 million – but there's a catch.

Designed in 1899 by the renowned architect George Palliser, the monumental Ditmas Park residence stands as a testament to Brooklyn's Gilded Age.

Palliser also designed its fraternal twin next door, 1010 Ocean Ave., for Van Ness' father-in-law, Thomas H. Brush.

The property in Brooklyn, New York, has been vacant since 2021 and is in need of renovation, both inside and out.

The home is nearly 6,000 square feet of living space, and a fully detached carriage house rests on an expansive lot with a private drive accommodating multiple cars.
