Starbucks workers are "ready to go on strike" against the company as the holiday drink season approaches. Starbucks Workers United has planned rallies and pickets to take place at 70 Starbucks in 60 cities between Friday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 2, including three locations in Ohio.
The move comes shortly after the coffee giant announced a wave of layoffs , cutting about 900 jobs and closing 1% of stores. Among them, 59 union locations were closed, per USA TODAY , and workers plan to rally and picket outside key Starbucks locations for a fair union contract. If negotiations fall through, baristas could vote to authorize a strike. Starbucks workers in Columbus protested in September for better pay, staffing and working conditions.
