Early voting is underway for most Oakland County communities with a Nov. 4 election.
But not all. South Lyon, Brandon Township and Groveland Township are opting out of the early voting this time.
South Lyon Clerk/Treasurer Lisa Deaton told The Oakland Press in September it costs the city $5,000 for early voting and that’s too much. The state allows communities to opt out of early voting when the only issues on a ballot are local. Deaton said South Lyon’s turnout is too small to justify the cost.
Voters can still apply for and pick up absentee ballots or cast a ballot in person on Nov. 4.
Oakland County operates several early voting sites for many municipalities. Early voting hours for county-run sites are 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. T
