DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - American farmers have traditionally depended on China to buy about a quarter of the soybeans they produce. Illinois is the nation’s top grower.

But China has stopped buying American soybeans this year because of tariffs, choosing to use Brazilian and Argentinian suppliers instead.

That’s riled soybean farmers in the Quad-Cities area who don’t have a market for this year’s beans. Some fear that without an urgent trade deal, they may lose the Chinese market altogether.
