People likely have many questions about their dental insurance, but chief among them is whether it is worth paying for at all. Is there enough of a benefit to warrant the cost?

Some think not. About 27% of adults in the U.S. do not have dental insurance, according to CareQuest Institute’s 2025 Oral Health Equity in America survey.

However, insurance agents say each person’s situation is different and they need to consider their individual or family’s needs.

Generally, group dental insurance plans offered by employers cover two dental cleanings per year, according to Kevin Lurie, senior vice president at NFP insurance brokerage in Cleveland.
