Tulane football coach Jon Sumrall was asked by Times-Picayune columnist Jeff Duncan on Tuesday morning about his name being attached as a potential candidate to replace former LSU coach Brian Kelly.
"I'll say this," Sumrall said, screwing on the cap to his water bottle to give the answer his full, undivided attention, "and Jeff, I love ya. I love all of y'all."
Sumrall panned to the rest of the media members in attendance of the mid-week availability.
"Y'all cover our program, and I'm grateful for it," Sumrall said. "You've got a job to do, and you've got to answer that question. I've got a job to do, which is to coach the Tulane football team."
Sumrall has a 15-6 record at Tulane after he went 23-4 at Troy. The Green Wave face UTSA in the Alamodome at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
