STATEWIDE -- Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey is suing the Trump administration for suspending SNAP benefits.
Frey joined a coalition of 22 other attorneys general and 3 governors today in filing the suit.
A statement sent out by Frey’s office says despite USDA’s claim of insufficient funds, the agency has access to billions of dollars in snap- specific contingency funds appropriated by Congress for this very purpose.
It says USDA also has access to other programs with emergency funds.
Frey says “42 million Americans, including 169 thousand Mainers, are going hungry this Thanksgiving because this administration is simply refusing to use the billions available to prevent this. It is unconscionably cruel and unlawful.”
