The Kyrene School District transportation committee is asking the district to approve 10 new MicroBird buses for the Extended Student Services, which helps students with disabilities during the school day.
Each bus would seat up to 14 students and would not require a commercial driver’s license to operate. Drivers would be called a “925 driver” and would be held to the same standards and responsibilities as typical bus drivers, but would require less training, allowing the district to allocate other drivers to larger buses.
Michele Parmley, the district’s transportation director, presented to the governing board on the proposal during the Oct. 14 study session meeting prior to the voting meeting.
