West Australian public schools are not doing enough to help students prepare for the looming social media ban and a predicted spike in anxiety, irritability and social friction, experts have warned.

The federal government ban will come into effect in under 50 days’ time, and several of the state’s private schools have publicly spoken about their plans to help students adjust.

But clinical psychologist Kerstin Anderson-Ridge said she was concerned the state government had not given public school students the same opportunity to prepare.
