Shillong, Oct 28: Social activist Angela Rangad has written to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills to raise her concerns over what she describes as rampant environmental violations and illegal activities taking place in the Lumparing area of Shillong.

In her letter to the DC, Rangad stated that the forests in the Lumparing–Kynjat Phutbol and Madan Laban areas have been subjected to “serious destruction” over several months and years due to extensive tree felling and unchecked soil dumping.

She pointed out that, apart from the damage caused by the proposed ropeway project—on which, she said, no consultations were held with local residents—fresh cases of indiscriminate soil dumping have further endangered the fragile ecosystem.
