MAINE, USA — Maine Attorney General Aaron M. Frey has joined 22 other attorneys general and three governors in suing President Donald Trump's administration, accusing it of unlawfully suspending food assistance for millions of Americans during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The lawsuit, filed against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Secretary Brooke Rollins, argues that the agency’s decision to halt Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments violates federal law.
"Forty-two million Americans, including 169,000 Mainers, are going to go hungry this Thanksgiving because the administration is simply refusing to use the billions available to prevent this," Frey said in a statement. "It is unconscionably cruel and unlawful."
