As 2025’s strongest storm makes landfall in Jamaica, flights between Montreal and Montego Bay have been cancelled and the government of Canada is urging Canadians to avoid all travel to the region.
Hurricane Melissa swept over New Hope, Jamaica at 1 p.m. EDT with maximum sustained winds of 295 km/h, the Weather Network reported.
“The storm is likely to bring excessive rainfall and violent winds. It may cause flash flooding and landslides and could severely disrupt … essential services” such as transportation, power, water and food, telecommunications, emergency services and medical care, the Canadian government wrote in its travel advisory.
