Hurricane Melissa is nearing landfall in Jamaica and is set to become one of the most historic hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin to make landfall.

The storm's minimum pressure has dropped to its lowest yet at 892 mb. Melissa has sustained winds of 185 mph.
The monster hurricane is now tied for the second-strongest storm in Atlantic history by wind speed, and it is tied for the third-strongest in history by pressure.
By wind speed, Melissa is tied with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane and hurricanes Gilbert in 1988, Wilma in 2005 and Dorian in 2019. It was only surpassed by Hurricane Allen in 1980.
