The Met Office has issued its verdict on how Hurricane Melissa might impact UK weather in the coming days.

The Category 5 hurricane is predicted to be the most destructive storm on record to hit Jamaica. It is expected to cause "catastrophic" flooding, landslides and widespread damage, and the Red Cross warns that up to 1.5 million people may be directly affected.

The Jamaican government has ordered evacuations from high risk areas, and all of the country’s airports are shut. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has warned travellers of flash floods and landslides, with up to 700mm of rain, four-metre waves and 135mph winds possible.
