ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A 36-year-old Convent man was sentenced to life in prison on Monday, Oct. 27, in the fatal shooting of his mother.
According to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office, on Jan. 7, 2021, St. James Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at a house in Convent. They said they learned that Carlos Washington shot two people inside the house and barricaded himself inside with his 6-year-old son. While deputies were attempting to get inside, Washington reportedly fired his weapon, forcing the deputies to retreat and engage in a stand-off.
