Clinton Township police used drone technology to track down and arrest a pair of suspected car thieves Tuesday morning, department officials said.

Police were pursuing a stolen vehicle but command officers decided to terminate the chase. The driver ended up crashing on 15 Mile Road, so the suspects got out and fled on foot.

That’s when police turned to their unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), more commonly known as a drone, to help them on a lengthy foot pursuit through backyards, parking lots, and streets.

The drone “provided responding units with a second-by-second account of the fleeing passenger’s location and movements,” police Capt. Michael Marker said in a news release.
