Piney Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) officials say a man found that his home had burned to the ground while he was away over the weekend.

Fire officials say they were called to the home on Smith Road shortly before 6:15am on Monday by the man who lived there after he got back to the property to learn that the home was gone.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and confirmed that the home was destroyed.

Crews put out any remaining flames and made sure that hot spots were cooled.

No one was hurt.

The name of the man who lived in the home has not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
