As Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws attention to early detection and women’s health, researchers and scientists are developing technologies and treatments that could redefine the fight against breast cancer.

The Department of Computer Science and Technology at Kean University has been awarded an AIM-AHEAD Research Fellowship Grant to support the work of Assistant Professor Meng Xu, who has used artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the accuracy of breast cancer detection.

“Dr. Xu’s achievement reflects the spirit of innovation and impact that drives our faculty,” said George Chang, dean of the Dorothy and George Hennings College of Science, Mathematics and Technology.

Xu’s project, titled “Deep Learning Applications for Early Detection of Breast Cancer in Mammography,” received $
