A 13-year-old student who is accused of making serious threats against a charter school in Plantation last week appeared before a judge on Tuesday.

NBC6 is not showing the teen's face because he is a minor.

During his court appearance, a prosecutor described how the teen is accused of making online threats against Renaissance Charter School in Plantation.

Since Friday, he has been in 21-day secure detention, but his attorney asked for him to be released and monitored by his family at home.

“I’m asking for secure home detention," said Michae Gottlieb, the teen's attorney. "He has no prior criminal history. He’s incredibly remorseful that this happened. He’s embarrassed and ashamed."

The teen’s father and grandmother also spoke in court, saying he’s never been in trouble before.
