FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Kentucky State Police are investigating after a woman was found dead from a gunshot wound on Thursday in Floyd County.

The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a call Oct. 23 about an unresponsive woman in the McDowell community of Floyd County.

KSP troopers and investigators responded to a residence on E Back Street, where they found a woman dead.

The initial investigation indicated Jill Howell, 34, of Prestonsburg, suffered from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.

Howell’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
