SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Emotions ran high during Monday’s Shreveport City Council meeting as community members voiced concerns about the future of Paint Your Heart Out, a volunteer program that paints homes for residents who cannot afford the service.
The city’s public meeting agenda included discussion of disposing or donating painting materials from the program, sparking fears among supporters that the initiative could be eliminated.
Council member Dock Voorhies questioned why he was not informed about issues with the program.
“Why am I hearing for the first time that people’s houses aren’t being painted? Why has chairperson and co-chairperson for the city, why haven’t I been told?” Voorhies said.
City Director of Community Development Verni Howard said storage costs for the program
