Owen Beck doesn’t believe he’s back in Laval, playing for the AHL’s Rocket instead of the Canadiens, because he lost a battle with Oliver Kapanen.
“I think we’re both in unique situations,” Beck said Tuesday after a practice at Place Bell. “He had a good camp and showed he could play really well with (Alex) Newhook and (Ivan) Demidov . Obviously, he played a little bit of power play and penalty kill throughout the camp as well. In the role that he was given, he showed that he could contribute. And, obviously, he’s had a great start to the season as well.
“It’s not necessarily one guy versus the other, because the roles are never going to be identical. Whatever opportunity you’re given, how big of an impression you can make in that role.”
