Ten arrests have been made this week as part of a domestic violence warrant sweep conducted by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
The department says the coordinated effort led to five felony charges and five misdemeanors with all suspects being lodged at the Berrien County Jail pending court appearances.
In total, deputies made nearly 50 attempts to locate subjects on outstanding domestic violence warrants.
The warrant sweep was part of a special enforcement initiative brought to the sheriff’s department as an idea of one of its deputies and launched by Sheriff Chuck Heit in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Heit says the action sends a clear message that his office is committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable.
