MADISON (WKOW) -- About 1,500 homes were destroyed in the Milwaukee floods this summer. On Tuesday, state legislators introduced a bill to help establish a state funded emergency relief grant program.
The program would provide targeted assistance when the governor declares a state of emergency.
"We've seen it time and time again in storms, floods, tornadoes tear through our communities, but because the damage doesn't meet the federal threshold for a major disaster declaration, families and business owners are left to fend for themselves," said Rep. Dan Knodl (R-Germantown).
Individuals could receive $25,000 to aid in disaster related expenses and repairs. Small businesses could receive up to $50,000.
